I’m Weird Because

Yes, it’s that time of the year again & I’m back with another ‘I’m Weird Because’ post. 2014 was the first time I did it and ever since then I always find myself coming back to it. It’s a good way to measure how much I have changed especially on the weirdness index. Also, it’s a good option to fall back on when the topics get too serious. It has been quite some time since I’ve had any light-hearted post on the blog and this fits perfectly. Moreover, writing this one is always fun. So, without further ado let me tell you about my quirks even if you don’t want to know!

I’m weird because…

I’m a creature of strange habits. Let me explain. If I have aloo paranthas for breakfast on Monday then it’s most likely that I’ll have the same on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and even Friday. Basically, every single day till I find a suitable replacement for it. And it doesn’t always happen quickly, I must add.

I don’t like going out of the house during weekends and holidays. And if someone somehow manages to drag me out, I feel uncomfortable till I’m back home. Yes, I’m a homebody.

I always pack more clothes for my daughter for her day in the creche. Always. Even though I know it’s way more than she’ll need and I’ll eventually have to carry everything back home unused.

I can’t accept the fact that my sister is a grown up. I still force her to send me her location when she goes out with friends or goes to Gym. I’m the nosey mother in the guise of a sister.

I don’t like being involved in a conversation while having dinner. All I want at that time of the day is my food accompanied by a rerun of FRIENDS. I hate having to do anything else at dinner time. So, if you talk to me while I’m eating then it’s more likely that I’m not listening at all.

I never like shopping during sales while logic suggests I should.

Shopping for clothes is my least favourite activity. Books, on the other hand, are a different matter altogether.

I can’t sleep without a blanket. Even in the middle of summers, I need a blanket with the fan running at top speed.

I’m very bad at giving compliments. It just doesn’t come to me naturally. So, even though I’ll think that the dress you are wearing looks very good on you, I’ll somehow forget to mention the same to you.

I can read at any time while doing anything. I have finished reading a lot of books while feeding my daughter when she was a baby. I still do that now while putting her to sleep. So, while I’m humming twinkle twinkle little star for her, in my mind I’m picturing Auschwitz because that’s what the book I’m reading is probably about.

I’m obsessed with reading about world war 2, fiction and facts around it. I feel a peculiar pull towards that time, the tragedies and the stories of courage in the face of death. It’s inspiring and heart wrenching at the same time but I can’t seem to get enough of it.

In my head, I’m the best dancer in the world but that’s not even remotely true.

I have a very heightened sense of hearing. Without even trying, I can tell you what the people sitting around me are talking about. This is what I do when in a restaurant with the husband or the sister. I entertain them with conversations from tables around us.

Whenever I go out to eat I make it a point to order non-vegetarian food because why would I go out to eat anything vegetarian? I know it’s ridiculous logic but then I already admitted that I’m weird.

Unlike the popular myth that girls are afraid of cockroaches and rats, I’m not. In fact, when I was living in a hostel during my engineering, I had caught a mouse in a plastic bag and threw it out of our room. And now in my house, I’m the one who runs after insects to get rid of them.

I absolutely hate going for parties. I don’t understand the need for it. I’m basically a boring person and I love that about me.

I still don’t like chocolates and fruits. I fear M is just like me.

Well, I think that’s about enough weirdness for this year. Tell me, are you weird too, in your own ways of course?

  1. Well, now I have to leave another comment, because apparently I screwed up the URL to my blog…Trust me, these insights make you endearing.

  2. You don’t like chocolates? You lucky lucky girl. Its a cute list. I also overpack for the children when we go somewhere even now. They’re unpredictable still and can spill and soil their clothes at a terrifying rate – so I’m with you there. Oh and I love WW2 stories too.

  3. How can you not like chocolates? But that’s okay, you can pass them along to me. I am not a party person either. I abhor them unless it is a small cozy group. I have g or on weekends too, must be due to the horrid traffic. But yes, I am a homebody too. Enjoyed these weird facts about you but you know that I still love you.

  4. I am not at all dissapointed, if I may tell you so. I saw a lot of me in your weirdness. No parties, homebody, uninterested in buying clothes but only books, overpacking clothes for the kid, hating shopping during sales are the ones I am there with. People I know tell me what kind of a woman can I be who knows how to drive and yet would hardly go out. If they knew how to drive they would never stay at home and spend all of their time out in markets shopping. The juggling act between the clutch and the brake in the traffic might add to their fun too, I suppose.

  5. And it’s the weirdness that makes you you. Don’t you think that we are all a little weird? I found a lot of me in this post. The dinner part, the blanket part, the conversations overheard at restaurants and the over-protective sister. I track her till she’s back home even though she’s mile away in the Mid-East. So here’s to the weirdness that makes us who we are. Loved it, Naba! ā˜ŗ

  6. We are a lot different yet similar in some ways, Naba. I like my non-veg and always order non-veg dishes. I used to catch cockroaches and show it off to my sister, she was so scared of them, silly girl! Not a party crazy person. I too have a habit of forgetting to complement people. But yeah, I like chocolates, fruits, shopping, going out for a drive or roaming around aimlessly. I like your weirdness, Naba. They make you unique and you. šŸ™‚

  7. Reading a book with multi tasking something else is a weirdness I want to possess. Life would have been so much productive with that. šŸ™‚

  8. I remember reading the previous post. You dinner time sounds exactly like mine. And as for dancing, of course I too think I am the best dancer in the world. I wish I could read like you. There are soany books I need to complete reading.

  9. You are not weird, you are way too adorable šŸ™‚

I share quite a lot of your weird traits, but then I have always been quirky.

~ Ordering only non-veg while eating out. Well obviously! I find it stupid to pay for vegetarian food outside home.
~ I am not scared of cockroaches or insects either. But rats irk me. I run a mile away.
~ I cannot sleep without a blanket either. Rain or shine, I need the blanket of mine.
~ I hate parties too. It has got to do with my intolerance towards crowds in general. I hate crowded places.
~ I hate shopping for clothes too. The walking around, the trials and the queues test my patience. Books, I can shop all day.
~ I hate having a conversation while eating too. I need to watch TV while eating. It is like an unsaid rule in the house.
~ I never shop during sales, no matter what the logic says. Even if I ever do, I always end up liking something that is NOT on sale. Just my luck.
~ I am bad at giving compliments too. I just register the dress/shoe/bag in my mind and look for it online later. Compliments I rarely give.
~ Like your heightened sense of hearing, I have a heightened sense of smell. I live on the third floor and can smell what is being cooked in the first house of the ground floor. Any smell, it reaches me first. Hubby says, I might have been a dog last birth!

I’ll stop now and so loved this post of yours. Looking at the size of my comment maybe I’ll do one too šŸ™‚

We’re not weird, Naba! We’re quirky and that makes us awesome. So, cheers sister! <3

  10. You are an interesting person, Nabanita! I share some of your traits like I hate parties and I’m a homebody too. I can stay at home for weeks without stepping out even once. I also pack extra clothes for my son and I think it’s a wise idea. Also, just like you, I can read anywhere – while feeding my son (when he was a baby). If the book is interesting I take it with me in the kitchen. šŸ™‚

It’s a very interesting idea – I’m weird because post.

  11. I enjoyed reading this list of things that make you weird. We must all celebrate our quirks and weirdness. Lovely post šŸ™‚

  12. Wow very well articulated,Nabanita.I must confess my count of weirdness will outnumber yours….I did read many a blogs but my word yours is an outright winner to my eye.. No ounces of biasedness, dear. It’s the head that’s going judgemental.God bless ,shona

  13. Enjoyed reading it.
